In the first minute of injury-time Westmeath scored a goal to lead for the first time since the opening 10 minutes. They were two points up and only two additional minutes of playing time had been called.
However Roisin McCormick gained possession close to the Westmeath goal, rounded a number of defenders and blasted the winning goal in a 3-13 to 3-12 success that sees Antrim retain the title. Roisin finished the game with 3-9 to her name. Big players win big games!
It was a proud day for the Brídíní Óga club with Ellen captaining the team and winning her second successive medal after sharing in last year’s win with Kirsty Laverty, Sian McNeill and Torie Edgar. This year Molly Woulahan was a member of the winning panel, while Ian Hynds was part of the management team headed by Carl McCormick a long time member of the Con Magee's.
Next Saturday the team will attempt to secure a third successive Ulster Minor title for Antrim - and it will be a home venue for the Saffrons. So it would be great to see some local support.
