Saturday 16 June 2018 – pictured the Glenravel U-10 boys football team at the Downpatrick RGU tournament.
Drawn against Drumaness, Pearse Og and Bredagh B, we started well beating Drumaness using the ball through the lines and taking scores within range. Good goalkeeping and stout defending did not lend Drumaness in and we were well worth the win.
The second match drew us against Bredagh B but really their top team and we lost this one to a well drilled team that went to the cup final losing narrowly. The last match of the round robin had us against Pearse Og - Armagh and despite some positional changes from the normal line-out we came out the winners.
After lunch and having made it to the cup section we had Bredagh A in the knock out stages. Working hard at midfiled to thwart the Bredagh attacks against the wind, the ball was nicely laid into the forward line where scores were taken to give us a half time lead. Playing the ball in the oppsition half with the wind we held on to our advantage and pressed home the result taking us to the cup semi final.
In the semi against Armagh Harps we played against the wind, first half trying to contain the eventual winners. Injuries having weakened the side had us chaisng the Harps through the game but we did have some good exchanges of play and some nice scores but we left the tournament at this stage.
A good representation of ourselves was the consensus with many of the teams asking about Glenravel as the giant continues to stir; well done boys. A very well behaved bunch off and on the pitch.
