After two weeks of getting to grip with indoor hurling the U12s made it through to the section 3 Final against St Ergnats. The boys had been playing in Randalstown indoor 3G pitch in the preliminary rounds and had won some and lost some. The top four progressed to the semi finals in Dunloy on Saturday 18th March.
Glenravel were pitted against Creggan in our semi final. The first half allowed both teams to get into the game. Glenravel missed opportunities to pull away and so it was still close at half time. The second half was completely different as Glenravel started with a flourish scoring sveral points and also catching well, which also gave scores to the team making the catches. This initial spurt after half time gave Glenravel breathing room from Creggan which Glenravel built on throughout the second half, progressing into the final against St Ergnats.
Glenravel had not beaten St Ergnats in the preliminary rounds and St Ergnats had shown themselves to be a strong team in this competition. And so when Glenravel got off to the better start with scores from Cormac McKeown, Conor Duffin and Nial Hynds. There was hope the boys would come back with the shield. Aaron Cotter scores a goal just before half time and so Glenravel were ahead at the break.
However, even though Glenravel got the first early scores of the second half St Ergnats had a purple patch were they were scoring points and catching almost at will. Niall, Conor and Cormac did have some late scores and with Fergus Donaghy and Niall Dixon battling hard up front there was a chance Glenravel might have just dome enough. At the final whistle there was a tense wait while the scorer totted up the points, goals and catches only for St Ergnats winning by a single score.
Never good to lose but good experience for this group of players made up from the older of the U12s.
