Under 16 A championship final
Sunday 8th October Brídíní Óga 4-5 Loughgiel 2-14
We have lost to Loughgiel in three of the last four Under 16 A championship finals, but in each of them we have managed to put together our best performance of the season. In this game we were finishing very strongly but just ran out of time with three goals in the last ten minutes bringing us back to within just three points of Loughgiel.
We competed well all over the field, particularly during the first half and should have been closer than 1-7 to 1-4 behind at the break, Niamh Donnelly the goal-scorer, although there was a bit of debate about an incident in the 10thminute, when Aimee’s high lob ended in the net, but was called back by referee Paul O’Neill and a free awarded instead which Beth pointed.
In fairness after Annie Lynn picked up a long pass from Aoife O’Mullan to score Loughgiel’s second goal in the 7th minute of the second half, the Shamrocks stepped on the gas and started to pull away. However as they began to make their substitutions, we responded and Aimee scored a great solo goal. Then substitute Hannah McCann was on hand to finish twice from just left of the goals – but there was just time for a poc out from the second and we lost out narrowly.
But once again – a huge effort from everyone.
