DIVISION 1 LEAGUE
Tues 24 April ROSSA 2-4 Brídíní Óga 3-8
A narrow defeat to Dunloy, a draw with Portglenone, it just seemed inevitable that a first victory in Division 1 was bound to happen in the next outing and that happened tonight in Rossa Park with another power-packed performance. This time the result fell our way.
We conceded an early point to Mairead Rainey, but, with the half-forwards working deeper around midfield, there was plenty of space in front of Ashling Millar and she exploited the first ball that came her way, gaining possession, turning her marker and running straight at goal before firing to the net.
Her second goal was a replica of the first and suddenly we were in control of the game and gaining in confidence. Although we conceded a goal directly from a long range free, we responded with points from Ashling and Kirsten and ended up at the break with a 2-2 to 1-3 lead.
Pádraig however was disappointed, believing that our dominance in general play demanded that we should have been six or seven points ahead. And the girls knew it!
Although Rossa took the lead with the first score of the second half, a goal from Natalie McGuinness, we hit back immediately with a point from Oonagh and then Caoimhe scored our third goal directly from a 45.
That gave us the platform to push on, keeping Rossa to just one point from Bronagh Archin and we hit some superb points, the best of which was a poc-out from Rachael picked up on the run by Torie and effortlessly slotted over the bar to a huge cheer from Big T.
As with the other games to date, there was huge effort from every player, but none shone brighter than Beth making her debut at wing half-back following a tour-de-force last night against Loughgiel in the Under 16A league.
Great to see so many smiles as we left the pitch and everyone looking forward to the next challenge.
