SENIOR LADIES FOOTBALL- DIV 2
All Saints 2-10 Con Magees 5-16
This was a really entertaining Antrim LGFA Division 2 league game played at Quinn Park tonight by 2 fully committed & skillful teams.
Our hosts, raced out of the traps in the opening minutes and had us under the cosh immediately from the throw in. Within 8 minutes, having conceded 2-5, it looked like damage limitation was the order and derby bragging rights would be awarded to our near neighbours. Our girls didn't panic though and good graft saw the deficit reduced to 4 by half time, having played into a fairly strong breeze.
In the second half, our girls played some scintillating football all across the pitch. As we pushed into the lead, our confidence rose & we picked off some exquisite scores (with 7 different scorers) while our defense limited Ballymena to just 2 points.
Tonights game was a fine advertisement for girls football within the county, with both teams really having a go. Both teams playing some really attractive attacking football, with there being 33 scores into total over the hour. Referee, Barry Coyle, was always in control of this local derby, which was played in real, full championship fashion.
This was the proverbial game of 2 halfs. Ballymena, although disappointed, will undoubtedly regroup & kick on from tonight's game. Well done to the whole of our green & white squad tonight. Considering some players who weren't available plus several girls had played a camogie championship match earlier today, proves the real character within our squad. Thanks also to the big Glenravel support that turned out tonight to spur the girls on.
Well done girls great start to 2019 🇳🇬
