U14 GIRLS FOOTBALL
Tir na nOg 2-10 Con Magees 3-5
Our squad, depleted in numbers after being ravaged by a sickness bug and injuries, travelled tonight more in hope than in expectation.
Regardless of that, the girls that played went for it and although didn't claim the Antrim LGFA league points from the Feile finalists, will come away with a lot of confidence & belief for the year ahead.
Playing up hill at Whitehill in the first half, our defense were kept busy by an industrious Randalstown team, while we struggled to get a foothold in the game. At half time we trailed 2-8 to 1-0, with Emer our goal scorer.
With no Jaffa Cakes or jelly babies at half time it was debatable were the energy levels would come from in the second half! But back we came.
Emer pointed, Aisling grabbed a goal & point followed up by a Toni goal, leaving only 3 between the teams with about 8 mins of normal time left on the clock. Randalstown regained their composure and pointed though with Emily rampaging down the far wing slotting over an excellent long range point, again left one score between the teams. Caitlin narrowed the gap to 2 points which was quickly moved back to 3 after a 13m free was converted at the other end. Another Caitlin point swung the momentum back to the Glenravel girls but with a minimum of injury time played, the Randalstown girls held on to claim the points, which on the balance, over the hour, they probably deserved.
Well done to both squads tonight for playing a very sporting & entertaining game of end to end football. Although both teams may have been guilty of some wayward shooting, credit must go to the pressure applied by both defenses. Best wishes to the both Emma & Uisneach from Tir na nOg who both had to retire midway during the 2nd half & thanks to Paul Hanna for refereeing tonight's game.
Well done girls. Some comeback 🇳🇬
